Wanda and Martin Grant

The three-story, 8-unit apartment building in Lawndale stood vacant for nearly a decade and required extensive rehab. Wanda Grant, who grew up in Lawndale, and her husband, Martin Grant, worked diligently to secure the necessary financing to save this building that was in immediate danger of being demolished by the city. Rehabilitation costs exceeded $45,000 per unit. The Grants had difficulty obtaining rehab financing until they approached CIC, which approved a loan through the Flex Fund Program, allowing them to make improvements without the use of government funds. This residential rental property is one of four saved by the Grants in the Lawndale community.
