Understanding Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) for Multifamily

Interested in adding a basement unit to your multifamily property? Join us to learn more about a new City of Chicago program that can help you add additional units to your building. The program may also make it easier for you to legalize existing non-conforming units.

The Additional Dwelling Units (ADU) Ordinance, approved by the Chicago City Council in December 2020, expands housing access across Chicago by allowing new units in attics, basements, and accessory buildings like coach houses. The ordinance also provides a path for legalizing non-conforming units that were previously built without zoning approval and building permits. The ordinance applies to single-family homes, 2-4 unit properties, and multifamily buildings. This webinar will focus on what the ordinance means for multifamily property owners.

We will discuss:
– ADU Ordinance for Multifamily 5+Units
– Affordability Considerations
– Financing Options

Presenters:
– The Preservation Compact
– City of Chicago Department of Housing
– CIC Lending
