CIC’s 2025 Annual Neighborhood Forum

We invite you to join us at the upcoming 2025 Neighborhood Forum hosted by the Community Investment Corporation (CIC) on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Malcolm X College. Our Neighborhood Forum is a significant event that brings together community members, industry professionals, and local owner-operators to discuss critical issues affecting the community’s economic development and growth.

This year, the theme is Local Focus: Neighborhood Housing Insights in Uncertain Times. We will feature keynote speakers discussing the current local real estate landscape, sharing insights into market trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping our communities.

Meet Our 2025 Neighborhood Forum Speakers!

Geoff Smith is the Executive Director and Principal Investigator of the Institute for Housing Studies at DePaul University. He brings years of experience producing research on the dynamics of neighborhood housing markets and connecting that research to a broad range of housing practitioners. Under Geoff’s leadership, IHS has positioned itself as a critical resource for timely research, policy analysis, and data that inform local and national policy debates around neighborhood stability and the preservation and production of affordable rental housing.

Prior to joining IHS, Geoff was Senior Vice President of Woodstock Institute. He has co-authored research published in journals such as Housing Policy Debate and Urban Affairs Review, and frequently appears in media outlets like USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, and NBC Nightly News.

Angela Hurlock serves as the Interim CEO of the Chicago Housing Authority. She has more than 20 years of experience in providing affordable, safe, and environmentally efficient housing to low-income residents in Chicago. She was appointed to the CHA Board of Directors by Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot in September 2019.

Previously, Angela served as CEO of Claretian Associates and Senior Director of Real Estate Development for Bethel New Life, where she was instrumental in creating affordable housing opportunities. She has received numerous awards and recognition for her work, including the South Chicago Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year and recognition as a Harvard Kennedy School Achieving Excellence Fellow.
